FAA ARAC ATST WG PUBLISHES DRAFT PRIVATE PILOT AND
INSTRUMENT RATING ACS DOCUMENTS
Today the FAA Aviation Rulemaking Advisory Committee (ARAC) Airman Testing Standards and Training (ARAC ATST) Working Group (ATSTWG) issued a Notice of Availability and Request for Comments in the Federal Register. The ATSTWG has developed draft ACS documents for the private pilot certificate and the instrument rating. These documents align the aeronautical knowledge testing standards with the flight proficiency standards set out in the existing Practical Test Standards (PTS). In addition to supporting the FAA’s effort to improve the relevance, reliability, validity, and effectiveness of aeronautical testing and training materials, the draft ACS documents support the FAA’s goal of reducing fatal general aviation accidents by incorporating task-specific risk management considerations into each Area of Operation.
The draft documents are available on www.regulations.gov at Docket No. FAA-2013-0316 by selecting the attachments, which include:
- Background Information on Industry-Led Changes
- Draft PRIVATE PILOT ‒ AIRPLANE ACS
- Draft Change Tracking Matrix (Private Pilot PTS)
- Draft INSTRUMENT RATING ACS
- Draft Change Tracking Matrix (Instrument Rating PTS)
Comments are due on or before May 24, 2013. If you have any questions regarding the draft ACS documents or would like assistance in drafting and submitting comments, please contact our office.
