FAA AVS ANNOUNCES FURLOUGH IMPLEMENTATION
Today, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Aviation Safety (AVS) office published a Notice regarding the implementation of its sequestration schedule. Specific information on the adjusted schedule is also available on the FAA AVS website.
As a result of the federal sequestration, FAA must implement certain furloughs to reduce its expenditures. Consequently, between April 21, 2013 and September 30, 2013, most FAA AVS offices and facilities will operate with reduced staffing on set days, while the remaining offices and facilities will operate with periodic closures of the entire office on set days. The furlough days for each office will vary according to the needs of that office.
- Flight Standards Service (AFS): Most AFS field offices have opted to select two furlough days each pay period, with approximately half of the employees off each furlough day. Certain offices have instead opted to close the entire office on one normal business day each pay period. Specific closure information is available on the FAA AVS website.
- Aircraft Certification Service (AIR): AIR offices will close on the first Friday of each pay period during the sequestration (April 26, May 10, May 24, June 7, June 21, July 5, July 19, August 2, August 16, August 30, and September 13).
- Office of Aerospace Medicine (AAM)AAM offices may have limited staff due to furlough days, but more specific information is not currently available. The Alaska office will be closed on the first Friday of each pay period during the sequestration.
