FAA FACT BOOK FOR 2018 IS PUBLISHED
The FAA recently released its updated Fact Book for 2018. The Fact Book is a comprehensive source of data about the FAA, airports, pilots, and operations. The 2018 Fact Book provides a comprehensive resource of data for aircraft, operations, airports, as well as on the agency budget, personnel, and resources. Points of contact for various FAA divisions and regions are also provided.
General Aviation and Part 135 Activity. For 2016 which is the most recent year of data, all categories of aircraft types showed modest increases over the year prior in the number of active aircraft. For piston and turboprop aircraft, the number of hours flown was up slightly over 2015. For jet, the hours flown were steady from the year prior, and rotary wing hours was down slightly.
Airports. The definition of active airports includes heliports, seaplane bases, civil public use part 139 airports, public use airports, and private use airports. The total number of public airports grew slightly from 19,524 (for 2015) to 19,527 (for 2016).
Operating Forecast. The number of GA itinerant operations for 2017 are 32,141,000 and are predicted to rise modestly to 33,346,000 in 2028. By contrast, the air taxi and commuter category is at 9,702,000 for 2017 and is expected to drop to 8,239,000 in 2028.
