FAA Resumes Normal Operations

FAA RESUMES NORMAL OPERATIONS

Today, FAA announced that is has suspended all employee furloughs. Air traffic facilities will begin to return to regular staffing levels, and the system will resume normal operations by April 28, 2013.

On April 25, 2013, the Senate passed the “Reducing Flight Delays Act of 2013,” which was enacted to “[t]o provide the Secretary of Transportation with the flexibility to transfer certain funds to prevent reduced operations and staffing of the Federal Aviation Administration, and for other purposes.”  The House passed the bill on April 26, 2013.

The legislation allows the FAA to tap unobligated Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funds, and grants additional flexibility for the agency to transfer other funding within its budget to prevent reduced operations and staffing during fiscal year 2013.  The transferred funds will not take away money from airport projects that have already been granted AIP funding.
