PHMSA PUBLISHES NEW HAZMAT DOT CHART 15
Last week, the Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) published DOT Chart 15, Hazardous Materials Markings, Labeling and Placarding Guide. DOT Chart 15 is a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) training tool that explains use of domestic, international and Canadian placards and labels for HM/DG and can be used for air, rail, water or ground transport training. The chart displays HAZMAT warning placards and the identification number displays.
In addition, to updates to align with regulatory revisions that occurred since the last publication, DOT Chart 15 includes the following updated information:
New limited quantity markings, which designate HAZMAT packages prepared for air transport (Y) and packages not prepared for air transport (all other modes).
ORM-D ification and the use of packaging marked “Consumer commodity, ORM-D” is authorized until December 31, 2020, for domestic highway, rail, and vessel transportation.
Transitional exception—Square-on-point with Identification Number: except for transportation by aircraft and until December 31, 2014, a package containing a limited quantity may be marked with identification number, preceded by the letters “UN” or “NA”.
Updated 9 Miscellaneous Warning Placards, including Limited Quantity Marking (for vessel transport only).
