U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION EXPANDS ITS GLOBAL ENTRY PROGRAM

On October 4, 2016, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued aGeneral Notice of expansion of the Global Entry Program to Nine Additional Airports. Currently, the Global Entry program consists of thirty-nine designated airports and will increase to a total of forty-eight with the new airport additions.

The Global Entry Program. The Global Entry program is a voluntary program that allows for dedicated Customs and Border Protection processing of pre-approved travelers arriving in the United States at Global Entry kiosks located at designated airports. When the program began in 2012, it was initially limited to twenty airports. Subsequently the Global Entry program was expanded to include four, eight, and seven additional designated airports.

Expansion of the Global Entry Program.With the new expansion of the program, CBP is designating nine additional airports which will have Global Entry kiosks for the use of participants. The nine additional airports are Fairbanks International Airport, Fairbanks, Alaska (FAI); Oakland International Airport, Oakland, California (OAK); Sacramento International Airport, Sacramento, California (SMF); Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport, San Jose, California (SJC); Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, New Orleans, Louisiana (MSY); Kansas City International Airport, Kansas City, Missouri (MCI); Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, St. Louis, Missouri (STL); William P. Hobby International Airport, Houston, Texas (HOU); Burlington International Airport, Burlington, Vermont (BTV).

Implementation.The Global Entry program will become operational at these newly designated airports on or before April 3, 2017. The exact starting dates of Global Entry at each airport location will be announced on the Global Entry Web site,http://www.globalentry.gov.
