FAA Publishes Study on the Use of Cell Phones on Passenger Aircraft

FAA PUBLISHES STUDY ON THE USE OF CELL PHINES ON PASSENGER AIRCRAFT

Today, the FAA published a study on the impact of the use of cell phones for voice communications in an aircraft during a flight in scheduled passenger air transportation.  FAA recognized the industry needed assistance in determining if cell phone and other transmitting portable electronic devices (PEDs) would interfere with the aircraft communication, navigation, and other electrical and electronic systems.

DOT FINES AEROFLOT FOR VIOLATION OF CONSUMER PROTECTION RULES

Today, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) fined Aeroflot for violating the expanded airline consumer protection rules.  According to DOT, Aeroflot violated rules related to full-fare advertising and rules requiring airlines to include a commitment in customer service plans allowing consumers to either hold or cancel reservations at the quoted fare without penalty for twenty-four (24) hours after booking.

The Advisory Committee for Aviation Consumer Protection will meet on October 2, 2012 at the U.S. Department of Transportation headquarters in Washington, DC.  The agenda consists of discussion by committee members of recommendations for proposed initiatives to be presented to the Secretary of Transportation.
