FAA Extends Comment Deadline on Proposed Amendments to Repair Station Regulations

Today, FAA extended the deadline for comments on its proposed amendments to the repair station regulations published on May 21, 2012.  FAA proposed to amend repair station regulations by revising the system of ratings, repair station certification requirements, and regulations on repair stations providing maintenance for air carriers. 

PHMSA Proposes Amendments to Hazardous Materials Regulations

PHMSA PROPOSES AMENDMENTS TO HAZARDOUS MATERIALS REGULATIONS 

Today, in an effort to harmonize the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) with international standards, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) proposed to amend the HMR to include changes to proper shipping names, hazard es, packing groups, special provisions, packaging authorizations, air transport quantity limitations, and vessel stowage requirements.

FAA Revises AC Regarding Flightcrew Procedures During Taxi Operations

On July 30, 2012, FAA issued Advisory Circular (AC) 120-74B, Parts 91, 121, 125, and 135 Flightcrew Procedures During Taxi Operations.  The revised AC cancels AC 120-74A, dated September 26, 2003.  AC 120-74B focuses on the development and use of mitigation procedures that can be used to avoid a runway incursion.  The AC also provides guidelines for developing and implementing standard operating procedures (SOP) for conducting safe aircraft operations during taxiing. &n

Today, FAA issued a policy statement outlining its environmental and energy policy for U.S. civil aviation.  Its statement affirms that the U.S. intends to be a global leader in the research, development, and implementation of technological, operational and policy initiatives that address transportation and environmental needs.

FAA & PHMSA to Hold Meeting on Air Carrier HAZMAT Passenger Notification Requirements

Today, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), in coordination with Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA), announced that it will hold a public meeting to discuss air carrier hazardous materials (HAZMAT) passenger notification requirements and acceptable means of compliance with 49 CFR 175.25.  The public meeting will be held on August 16, 2012 in Washington, DC.

FAA REOPENS COMMENT PERIOD FOR AOPA/EAA PETITION FOR EXEMPTION

Today, FAA reopened the comment period for a petition for exemption from Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).  If the petition for exemption is granted, AOPA and EAA members could conduct certain aircraft operations without holding an FAA-issued medical certificate.
